JOYRIDE

Notes

1 I wanted to play into the fantasy of escapism during the Roaring 20s, and a luxurious fast car blazing through the desert feeds that substantially.

2 A ripe red was chosen for the body to contrast against the blues and oranges of the desert landscape.

Mercedes-Benz Classic Center

This project is an art-deco inspired poster for the Mercedes-Benz Classic Center, located in Long Beach, California. The original Classic Center was opened in 1993 in Fellbach, Germany, but now resides in Stuttgart, Germany. The Classic Center recently opened the doors to its new and improved location this last August 2022. The past location, in Irvine, California, was the former headquarters of sports-automotive company Saleem Automotive, Inc. and housed around 27,000 square feet. This new location in Long Beach is a renovated air hangar from the aerospace company Mcdonnell Douglass. This is the only Classic Center located in the United States.

The Mercedez-Benz 190SL is a limited-edition sportscar that was manufactured for a short eight years (between May 1955–February 1963). With the SL meaning “Super-Leicht” (or Super Light), it was initially advertised and available as a sports-racing model before fitting into the image of luxury that it is today.
